Founded in 1975, we are one of the oldest and most respected departments of gender and women’s studies in the country. This year we are celebrating our 50th anniversary!
The importance and the impact of the GWS classroom, scholarship, and community have never been more explicit. Our interdisciplinary curriculum prepares students for continuing graduate and professional education, as well as employment in diverse fields, from marketing to medicine. In our classrooms, students see their experiences reflected back at them, and they look beyond their own perspectives to understand the lives of other people. Our students are engaged in coursework, research, internships, and other activities that enhance their experience at the UW, but more importantly, that prepare them for rewarding, curious, and engaged lives when they graduate.
Gifts received by the Department of Gender & Women’s Studies during Day of the Badger will support academic excellence among our students; promote undergraduate and graduate student research; fund student professional development opportunities, including attending conferences; sponsor student internship experiences; and foster student leadership opportunities. Join us in celebrating the 50 years of feminist scholarship, community engagement, and student success nurtured by Gender & Women’s Studies at UW-Madison!
