Building on more than a century of distinguished scholarship and teaching, UW–Madison’s Department of History is one of the top programs in the country. Our undergraduate courses serve students across the university, including more than 400 history majors and nearly 250 certificate students. We are home to a vibrant community of more than 100 graduate students pursuing degrees in both history and the history of science, medicine, and technology. A history education helps students understand the joy and power of studying the past but also offers new ways of addressing the challenges of the present and the future. The research and writing skills that students learn in history classrooms prepare them for careers in government, law, and history education — but also careers as diverse as international finance, sports management, and information technology. Our faculty members and graduate students win numerous national and international research and teaching awards. Books written by our faculty and graduates enrich lives and public conversation. Our continued excellence as a world-class history department depends on your generosity.

Your support allows the Department of History to offer the best quality instruction, professional development, research support, and internship opportunities to students. In addition to reinforcing our academic programs, your support helps to strengthen the UW–Madison Department of History as a leading program in the field with innovative research, scholarship, and public engagement.

Your contributions enable the Department of History to continue offering students programs and opportunities that strengthen their history education, support their research and professional development, and prepare them for successful and impactful careers.

Gifts will be contributed to the Department of History Annual Fund – 112463230 at the University of Wisconsin Foundation.
