The Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program advances interdisciplinary research and teaching on Chican@ and Latin@ populations. Our faculty members study Latin@ political and social organizations in the United States as well as immigration and Puerto Rican history; criminalization and incarceration; and Latin@ literatures, cultures, arts, and media. Still others research the educational experiences of Latin@s in both K–12 and higher education, Latin@ participation in rural and urban economies, and Latin@ health and well-being. Together, we promote the success of Chican@ and Latin@ students at UW–Madison through supportive programming and events.

Why We Need Your Support
For decades, we offered only a certificate program of study. However, in response to student demand, we now offer a major in Chican@ and Latin@ studies, and we just graduated our first major class of 17 students in 2024!
