Ranked 13th globally and seventh nationally, the UW–Madison Department of Mathematics is devoted to research and teaching, and we want to spread our excitement about mathematics to the rest of the world. The department teaches 10 percent of all the classes in the College of Letters & Science, and we can see that the future for these students is exceedingly bright.
Your gift to our department will help support students and our popular programming and outreach, such as the Math Learning Center; Applied Math, Engineering, and Physics Lab; Madison Experimental Mathematics Lab; and Math Talent Search.
Undergraduate students are trained in basic and advanced techniques through a huge range of courses offered, from calculus to partial differential equations, probability to analysis, and beyond. Students gain important basic skills for use in industry and continued study, and a strong training in critical thinking. Graduate students are trained to do research at a professional level and to teach the next generation of students, and postdoctoral scholars come to build on their graduate education toward a life in mathematics. Our programs cannot occur or grow without the support we gain from our generous donors.
Your investment is critical to student success. In these uncertain times, with declining research funding, your donation is vitally important in continuing to serve the needs of our students and fulfill the department’s mission of administering world-class education and research.
