The Department of African Cultural Studies provides research and teaching in the languages and expressive cultures of Africa and Africans around the world. This includes work on both graduate and undergraduate levels, and emphasizes the development and application of analytical, linguistic, and methodological tools that enable students to work effectively and imaginatively across regions, languages, cultural forms, methodologies, and disciplines.

Immersive learning on the continent is critical for our students to strengthen their understanding of African languages and cultures, and it is your contribution and commitment to the department that enables us to advance this key priority for our undergraduate majors and graduate students. Your gift will directly impact our students by making it possible for them to experience professional development opportunities including conference travel, research funding, competitive scholarships, prize competitions, and opportunities to study abroad. No matter the size of your gift, every donation makes a difference to our students.
