ANDRÉ DE SHIELDS - WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
MATCHING GIFT AVAILABLE: Thanks to Janell Wise and Jaimie & Brian Dockray, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar -- up to $3,000 -- during Day of the Badger.
Founded in recognition of the outstanding achievements in theater and the performing arts by UW Madison alumnus and Broadway living legend André De Shields, the André De Shields Fund supports UW-Madison undergraduate students of color (both arts and non-arts majors) who are historically underrepresented with the resources and platforms to develop, design, produce and/or perform artistic projects grounded in Theater and the performing arts.
The UW-Madison campus benefits from investing in diversity. This fund is a clarion call to enhance and improve the campus climate. Students disadvantaged by racism and oppression need allies like you. Your gift will signal that students of color belong in the Wisconsin Union Theater and the arts on campus. It will ensure students of color have access to opportunities denied to André De Shields and create a safe and welcoming environment for them to learn, develop, create, and perform on their college campus.
André De Shields is a part of the wider Raimey-Noland Campaign for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, a campus-wide effort to build a more diverse and equitable community on campus and open doors for future Badgers.
