COMPUTER SCIENCES - WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

CHALLENGE GIFT AVAILABLE: Thanks to anonymous donors if 150 donors give to the Department of Computer Sciences during Day of the Badger, $10,000 will be unlocked.

Computer science is revolutionizing our lives. Everyone needs to understand not only how to use computers, but also computational thinking. In the Department of Computer Sciences, we take the “everyone” part of that statement seriously. Our goal this year is to raise money to help more students lead CaTaPuLT (Computational Thinking, Programming, Logic, and Technology) Clubs for fourth and fifth graders in Madison and beyond. Since fall 2009, students from UW–Madison have been teaching computational thinking in these clubs by using Scratch programming, which focuses on creating original games and stories. Club leaders are trained through CS 402, a community-based-learning course. We need your help to grow CaTaPuLT throughout Wisconsin and to continue supporting UW–Madison, our public schools, and future UW computer sciences students. CaTaPuLT Clubs are the Wisconsin Idea at work!

The Department of Computer Sciences is proud to be a part of the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS). We are pleased to collaborate with CDIS in supporting our students and delivering on our mission. Thank you for your support!
