Why We Need Your Support

For nearly a century, UW–Madison has been home to one of the top-ranking geography departments in the nation. The strength of our department is reflected in our ability to attract top-caliber students, compete for significant research funding, and win major awards, including more Guggenheim Fellowships than any other geography department. Our Geography Club members work hard to raise funds and organize departmental events like Coffee Hour that connect students, faculty, and staff. Our External Relations Committee also organizes fundraising events. Unfortunately, these efforts are inadequate to reach the professional training needs of our devoted undergraduates.

Geography - How Gifts Make a Difference

We depend on the generosity of alumni and friends for the continued excellence of our programs and resources. Our funding priorities include (post-COVID) supporting field trips to cities where undergraduate students can meet potential employers and shadow alumni, and covering travel costs to a regional professional conference where students can present their work. In addition, we support summer research and internship opportunities. Each of these crucial opportunities can cost more than $1,000 per student, so any generosity is greatly appreciated. Your gift will ensure a bright future for the geography department!

What is day of the badger

Day of the Badger is a day — and then some — to celebrate and support UW–Madison. It’s exactly 1848 minutes for all alumni, students, and friends throughout Badger nation to make a far-reaching impact in a short amount of time.
