Why we need your support
WATER ACTION VOLUNTEERS - WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
The Water Action Volunteers program provides free field training, water quality monitoring equipment and educational resources to build a knowledgeable network of stream monitoring volunteers across Wisconsin.
Did you know?
- WAV volunteers monitor over 500 stream and river sites across Wisconsin each year, collecting valuable long term water quality data that demonstrate whether a stream can support a vibrant fish community, supply clean water to lakes and rivers downstream, and is safe and enjoyable for people to recreate on.
- With over 45,000 miles of wadeable streams and rivers in Wisconsin, WAV volunteers play a critical role by expanding on the work of professional biologists, ensuring that more of our waters can be regularly monitored and protected.
- WAV provides training, equipment, and educational resources to 47 partner organizations across the state, expanding outdoor and science-based learning opportunities for youth and adults in more communities.
Your gift will help us reach our goal to expand volunteer stream monitoring and education to underserved regions of the state. In 2023 alone, we’re launching 5 new stream monitoring groups with local partner organizations, who will monitor and advocate for the water quality of their local streams and rivers for many years to come.
Every $400 we raise supports WAV volunteers monitoring a new stream site in Wisconsin. Make a gift today!
