Why we need your support
WISCONSIN GEOLOGICAL AND NATURAL HISTORY SURVEY - WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
WGNHS is committed to making our science available and accessible to people throughout the entire state of Wisconsin. Your gift today will help us reach this goal in two ways:
Student internships – This year again, WGNHS is offering a paid summer geologic mapping internship for one lucky undergraduate student. This year’s internship was made partially possible by your support last year with additional funding from AIPG Wisconsin. We want to continue offering this kind of internship for years to come! With your generous gift today, we hope to be able to continue offering this unique student internship experience in future years.
Digitization projects – We are working hard to expand and enhance our digital offerings so that people can access and learn from our scientific data no matter where they are located. By donating to WGNHS, you will be helping to fund more digitization projects that all Wisconsinites can benefit from! Here are some examples of our previous digitization projects that are available to anyone with an internet connection:
- Springs in Wisconsin – an interactive story map showcasing more than 400 springs we surveyed throughout the state, including data, photos, site sketches, and information about geologic settings
- WGNHS Data Viewer – an interactive map providing online access to statewide data from three geologic collections: geophysical logs, Quaternary core, and rock core
- Lake Superior Legacy Collection – a website digitizing data gathered by the Lake Superior Division of the USGS from 1882-1922, with thin section photographs, geologists’ field notebooks, maps, and more
You can help WGNHS have an even bigger impact on Wisconsin and on future geologists. Make a gift today!
